The longer story
A workable policy is short enough that staff actually read it. It should say what pupils are permitted to use, and how that changes by task and by year group. It should say what staff may use, particularly for planning, feedback and reports. It should be explicit that anything identifying a pupil must never be entered into a public tool. It should also name who makes the decision when a case is disputed, so that a teacher is never left to judge alone, and it should record that detector scores are not evidence in their own right. Reviewing it once a year is realistic, because these tools change faster than policy cycles do.
