The IoAI LLM leaderboard,
independently ranked.

The IoAI LLM leaderboard is a free, independent ranking of large language models, built and operated by the Institute of AI as one of its public Platforms. It is community-scored and vendor-neutral, so you can compare models on merit and choose the right one for the job rather than the one with the loudest launch.

— The board —

One ranked view of the whole field.

A single ordered board, scored by the community and refreshed as the field moves. The preview below is an anonymised illustration of the layout. The real models, scores and order live on the board itself.

— How the ranking works —

Ranked by the community, paid for by no one.

An independent leaderboard is only worth reading if you can trust how it was built. Four principles hold this one together, and none of them is negotiable.

01

Community-scored

Positions come from the people who use these models, not from a lab grading its own homework. Members and the public score models on the work that matters to them, and the ranking reflects that collective judgement rather than a single headline benchmark.

02

Vendor-neutral

The Institute of AI has no vendor affiliations and resells nothing. No model is given a head start because of who built it or how large the company behind it is. Every entry is measured on the same footing.

03

Transparent

How a model earns its place is set out openly, so you can see the basis of the ranking and not just the order. The methodology is published on the live board and open to scrutiny, which is what makes an independent ranking worth trusting.

04

No pay-for-placement

Placement cannot be bought, sponsored, or lobbied for. No vendor pays for a position, and no amount of marketing budget moves a model up the board. The order is earned, or it is nothing.

— Why it helps —

A neutral starting point for a real decision.

Choosing a large language model is a decision usually made on marketing. An independent, community-scored board gives you somewhere impartial to start.

Choose the right model

Match a model to your task, your budget and your risk appetite instead of picking whatever launched loudest this week. The board gives you a neutral starting point for a decision that usually gets made on hype.

See how the field moves

Large language models change fast, and a fixed article goes stale the moment it publishes. A living, community-scored board shows where models stand now, so you are reading the present rather than last quarter.

Cut through vendor claims

Set the marketing against independent scoring. When a launch deck and the leaderboard disagree, you have somewhere impartial to look. The board is a check on the claims, not an amplifier for them.

— Common questions —

LLM leaderboard, answered.

What is the IoAI LLM leaderboard?+
It is a free, independent ranking of large language models, built and operated by the Institute of AI as one of its public Platforms. Rather than reporting a single vendor's benchmark, it orders models using community scoring, so you can compare them on merit. The current order always lives on the live board.
How are the models ranked?+
Positions are community-scored and vendor-neutral. The Institute of AI has no vendor affiliations, no model can pay for placement, and the method behind the order is published openly on the board. The ranking reflects how the community rates models on the tasks they care about, not who built them.
Which models are top right now?+
The order shifts as the community scores, so the honest answer is to check the live board rather than a static page. The preview on this page uses anonymised placeholder rows on purpose. For real names and current scores, see the live leaderboard.
Is it free to use?+
Yes. Like the rest of IoAI's Platforms, including Learn AI and the Arena, the LLM leaderboard is free and open to everyone. You do not need to be an Accredited Member to read it or to take part in scoring.
How is this different from a vendor's own benchmark?+
A vendor benchmark is published by the party with the most to gain from a good result. This board is independent: it is run by the Institute of AI, resells nothing, and takes no payment for placement. When a launch claim and the board disagree, an independent ranking gives you an impartial reference.
