This proves you can practise.
A vendor exam checks that you know a console. It cannot check whether you should have built the thing in the first place, whether you tested it honestly, or whether you can answer for it afterwards. Those are the engineering decisions, and they are what accreditation assesses.
“Can this person operate our platform to the level we defined?” A fair question, and a useful answer. It is also the whole of what a vendor exam can tell an employer.
“Can this person be trusted to build with AI when it matters?” Independent, portable and evidence-based, it travels with you between employers and outlives any single tool in your stack.
Four lenses on real engineering.
The assessment is graded against IoAI’s published competency framework, not a question bank. It looks at how you frame problems, build systems, prove they work, and answer for them, at the level you are applying for.
Problem framing and judgement
Choosing whether a problem should be solved with AI at all, scoping it honestly, and knowing where a model’s confidence outruns its competence. The part a vendor exam never asks about.
Building and shipping
Designing, integrating and deploying systems that hold up outside a notebook: data pipelines, model choices, and the engineering that turns a working prototype into something a team can rely on.
Evaluation and reliability
Measuring what a system actually does, not what the demo suggests. Evaluation, monitoring, regression and the discipline to catch a model degrading before your users do.
Responsible and safe deployment
Governance, data protection and accountability under UK expectations, including the ICO. Knowing what leaves the machine, who owns the decision, and how to defend it later.
